Notes:

tab xtab nyepThis is a pirated edition of an article originally published in The Literary Review section of the New York Evening Post, Dec. 11, 1920. An unknown number of copies were printed and distributed. Cabell vocally objected to its publication, so it is curious that he has signed this copy in his distinctive hand. Allegedly, all but twenty-five copies were destroyed. As can be seen, this example has been damaged and has a jagged 2 ¼ inch long hole torn completely through along the edge of the text. Might this then be an example of a "destroyed " copy?
