Notes:

To my mind, this collection is a must-have for anyone with a more-than-casual interest in the work of Hope Mirrlees. It includes so much more that the title suggests. In it, Dr. Parmar has gathered the full text of Paris in its original version, butressed by a long commentary by the late Julia Briggs. Add to this the complete assemblage of poems from the three versions of Poems and Moods and Tensions, which are essentially unavailable elsewhere, plus a large selection of previously unpublished poems that Dr. Parmar has gathered from the archives of Newnham College, Cambridge. As if this wasn't enough, there are also six essays that HM wrote in the late 1920s (reprinted here for the first time) and a poem by Jane Harrison. Finally, Dr. Parmar has given us her own introduction (a longish essay that beautifully encapsulates HM's philosophy of writing), A Note on the Text, a short Selected Bibliography, and a series of Notes on the Poems and Essays. Luckily, at present (2017), this book is still readily available. Get this book.
