CIRCULAR SENT MEMBERS OF THE FAMILIES INTERESTED:
This single sheet broadside (9" x 6") was written by Mr. Cabell and distributed to members of the families listed in The Majors and their Marriages as an advertisement. This handsome circular was mentioned (including a brief quote) on page 171 of Edgar A. MacDonald's James Branch Cabell and Richmond-in-Virginia, 1993, Hall/SS No. *E34. As far as we know, though, this Cabell original (albeit a minor one) has never been otherwise reported, and to our knowledge this is the first tme it has been reprinted in full. We have accordingly assigned it the Hall/SS No. *A43. In it, Mr. Cabell discusses the content of the new book, its appeal to the families involved, and particulars of the printing. He also notes that the Burlington Edition will be limited to 100 numbered and signed copies, and that 50 copies are still unsubscribed, and states that the number of copies of the Roxbury Edition "will be determined in number entirely by the number of advance orders." Finally, he mentions that 'neither edition will be reprinted."
The superscript title "CIRCULAR SENT MEMBERS OF THE FAMILIES INTERESTED" was not printed as part of the broadside, but was typed on later. Previous bibliographers have all stated that the Roxbury Edition consisted of 200 copies in either buff or grey wraps.
