Publication as a Magazine Serial:
Prior to its publication in book form, an abridged version of The Eagle's Shadow was published in nine parts, appearing in the August 6 through October 1, 1904 issues of The Saturday Evening Post. Each installment was profusely illustrated by Will Grefé. Two of these drawings were later reused as the two different frontispieces for the first printing of the book, and seven others were used as illustrations in it.
The Silver Stallion has made available the entire text and all illustrations of all nine parts of the magazine version of The Eagle's Shadow in our Original Material in Periodicals section. As far as we know, this is the first time this version of the story has been published on the web in its entirity. These scans can be directly accessed HERE.
