COMPILATION

Full Title:

Type H title page2. This type of title was used post 1940 (see image above).

Publication:

xx

Collation:

xx

Binding:

Blumenthal (Toledano Style 8) binding2 in green, red field on front and spine, gilt lettering. (see image above). This binding was used from 1939 to 1963. Blumenthal bindings were issued in various colors, but only one color of binding was used for each printing. For some titles, later printings are known to have been issued in bindings of different colors, but this has not been reported for Jurgen.

Dedication:

xx

Endpapers:

Kent endpapers2 in grey (see image above). This style of endpapers was used from 1929 to 1967.

Dust jacket:

Toledano typographical dust jacket Style T with Style g rear panel. Based on the titles listed on the interior, this jacket dates to Spring 1941.

Notes:

1.This printing not noted in Hall. We list three Modern Library printings of Jurgen. While it is likely that there are actually more than three printings, we are reasonably confident that there are only two binding styles - the balloon cloth "Modern Library" binding used for the first two printings, and the Blumenthal binding (both in various colors) shown on this page.

2. Type descriptions for title page, binding, spine, and endpapers ("Blumenthal", "Kent", etc.) are those used in A Descriptive Bibliography of The Modern Library 1917-1970, by George M. Andes.
