Notes:
This is an advertising piece written by Mr. Cabell to promote The Majors and Their Marriages, Hall M&TM-A1. Based on the text, it was intended to be sent to members of the various familes addressed in the book, promoting its sale. As far as we know, this Cabell item has not been previously reported - certainly it was not covered in Hall's bibliography. In it, Mr. Cabell discusses the content of the new book, its appeal to the families involved, and particulars of the printing. He notes that the Burlington Edition will be limited to 100 numbered and signed copies, and that 50 copies are still unsubscribed. He also notes that the number of copies of the Roxbury Edition "will be determined in number entirely by the number of advance orders." He further notes that 'neither edition will be reprinted." Previous bibliographers have all stated that the Roxbury Edition consisted of 200 copies in either buff or grey wraps. This broadside also notes that an order blank was to be enclosed with the broadside circular. We have not seen that form.
The superscript title "CIRCULAR SENT MEMBERS OF THE FAMILIES INTERESTED" was not printed as part of the broadside, but was typed on later.
The copy shown here was found in a copy of the Burlington Edition of Majors, Hall M&TM-A1a.
