This printing is significant for a few reasons. First, it was the first time the entire Zimiamvian trilogy was published in a single volume. Second and more importantly, it contains valuable scholarship about Eddison and Zimiamvia, in both Douglas Winter's "Foreword" and Paul Edmund Thomas's introduction, "The Writing of the Mezentian Gate." Finally, and most importantly of all, in this edition the text of The Mezentian Gate was for the first time supplemented with additional textual material found in Eddison's papers in the Bodleian Library. This expanded version was reprinted in 2014 by HarperCollins, Mez-D1 (w).
